Visitor Access Guide for Capes Raptor Centre

Capes Raptor Centre is located approximately 10 minutes by car from the Margaret River town centre. The site is self-drive only.

  • A drop-off zone is located near the entrance.
  • ACROD parking bays are available close to the ticket office.
  • Flat, compacted gravel paths connect parking to the main visitor areas.

Visitors will find the ticket office welcoming and accessible, with a clear entry path and trained staff ready to assist.

  • Step-free and slip-resistant access.

Carer and Companion Card holders

  • We accept the national Companion Card, and bookings are essential.
  • We offer free admission to a carer or companion of an individual with a valid Companion Card.

Trained service dogs are welcome throughout Capes Raptor Centre.

  • Please call ahead on (08) 9757 7411 and provide proof of service dog certification on the day of your visit.
  • Assistance animals must wear an identifying harness or vest.
  • Seating is provided throughout the site.
  • For the safety of our animals and yours, pets are not permitted on the grounds, including the car park.
  • Please do not leave pets unattended in vehicles during your visit.

The site includes open bushland paths, wildlife aviaries, and outdoor presentation spaces. Although the surfaces are natural and may be uneven in places, key areas are accessible for mobility aids.

  • Step-free access to all major visitor areas.
  • Rest stops and seating are located throughout the site.
  • Main paths are wide, compacted gravel. They vary in firmness but are suitable for all-terrain wheelchairs and prams.
  • Aviaries and exhibits provide level access and mesh viewing for seated visitors.

Accessible toilets are located near the main facilities and are clearly signed.

  • Step-free entry and wide door access.
  • Accessible toilets with grab rails and sufficient turning space.
  • Baby change tables are available within accessible toilet facilities.

We recommend dressing for an outdoor bushland experience.

  • Enclosed, flat-soled shoes are recommended.
  • Sun protection and insect repellent may be helpful.
  • Weather conditions can vary. Please check the forecast and bring suitable clothing.

Capes Raptor Centre is set in a peaceful bush environment. While Birds of Prey Encounters use a speaker system, noise is typically low and consistent.

  • Quiet outdoor spaces available throughout the site.
  • Plain English signage and calm, nature-based setting.
  • A Social Story is in development to support pre-visit planning.

We aim to support visitors who are blind, have low vision, or are hard of hearing through inclusive signage and interpretation.

For visitors who are blind or have low vision:

  • High-contrast, large-font signage throughout the site.
  • Paths are clearly defined and free from overhead obstructions.
  • Verbal interpretation is included in presentations.

For visitors who are Deaf or hard of hearing:

  • Staff are available to assist with communication during entry and ticketing.

The site is fully outdoors and has clear evacuation procedures. All ground-level evacuation routes are step-free and accessible.

  • All evacuation paths are step-free and at least 900 mm wide.
  • Exits are clearly marked with tactile and high-contrast signage.
  • Staff are trained in first aid and emergency response.
  • Visual and audible alarms are installed in main public areas.
  • A first aid kit is located on site.
  • Visitors who may need evacuation support are encouraged to notify staff at check-in.
