Workshop | 6 hours
*Children must be aged 10+ to participate. All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop.
A great diversity of Australian wildlife relies on native tree hollows to meet their nesting or roosting requirements. Such hollows take
hundreds of years to form naturally, but sadly, due to massive land-clearing over the last century, countless numbers have been lost. This has had a severe impact on native wildlife, particularly owls and black cockatoos.
We are lucky to have some amazing tree hollows at Capes Raptor Centre, but we have teamed up with Dr Simon Cherriman to build further nest-boxes that will then be installed on the sanctuary walk, encouraging more wildlife to site and hopefully inspiring others to do the same.
The nest-building workshop starts with a presentation from Dr Cherriman on the significance of wildlife habitat and recycling initiatives, before we break into smaller groups to begin nest-box construction. Once the nest boxes are complete, we will embark on a group sanctuary walk to identify the best places to install them. Two remaining nest boxes will be given away as door prizes at the end of the workshop.
Breaks for morning tea and lunch will be fully catered. Please provide dietary information to info@capesfoundation.
Your six-hour workshop includes entry to Capes Raptor Centre, a bird of prey encounter and all materials and equipment provided for the nest-box building session. Boxes will be installed around Capes Raptor Centre. You will have a chance to win a nest-box to take home as part of our door prize, but we can’t guarantee it will be the nest you made.
