Mammoth Cave
Guides lead students through a cave of extraordinary natural and historical significance. Once home to ancient fossils of megafauna—giant animals that roamed Australia before their extinction around 46,000 years ago—the cave offers a rare glimpse into the past. Students will observe the approximately 50,000-year-old jawbone of a Zygomaturus, a relic of a large wombat-like herbivore, still embedded in the cave wall.
The tour also highlights crystal formations including stalactites and stalagmites, along with a seasonal stream that flows through the cave during late winter and early spring. As the group exits, stairs lead into a tranquil forest setting, with the experience concluding with a peaceful walk through the surrounding marri and karri forest.
